This is the only PTO Fundraiser event for the year.  Students are encouraged to raise at least $30. There are a variety of individual prizes as well as classroom prizes as well as classroom prizes.  Collection dates are labeled on the envelope. The last collection day is Friday, October 5th. Thank you for your support of Lincoln School! We hope all of our third grade families can come out and enjoy the Walk-A-Thon and Piggin’-N-Ginnin BBQ!

Commitment Book
This week your child learned about what a "Commitment Book" is in our classroom. As a 3rd grade teacher for 4 years now, I found that students would often go to the Library, check out a book, and then return it the next week, and not have read a word, or maybe only a chapter. So, my challenge to my students is to choose a "Good Fit Book" to read from cover to cover! They decide if it fits them by opening it up and reading a page. They hold up their fist, and as they read the page, they put a finger up for every word that they don't know. If they get to the end of the page and only have two fingers up (for two unknown words), than that is a "Good Fit Book." Their Commitment Book should be going back and forth to school, and they should be reading it here, and at home. This way they will finish a book faster, and they will be able to take a Reading Counts Test to earn points for the trimester. Let me know if you have questions on this.

NWEA
Students are almost complete with both their Math and Reading Tests. We will use this data to help us know how to place students in small groups, and also see if they may need Title One services.

If you need anything, feel free to email me at aettinger@sjschools.org.
